Brushing

Use small circular movements with the brush held at 45 degrees to the tooth. Move systematically around the mouth. Remember to clean the inside surfaces and the biting surfaces. Don't forget behind the top and bottom teeth. A good technique will take 2 minutes.

Your dentist or our hygienist at Craigmillar Dental Centre will be more than happy to demonstrate the correct brushing technique if requested.

Infant Brushing

First of all the right toothpaste should be selected with the appropriate fluoride content for an infant. A smear of toothpaste should be applied. Brushing should start when the first tooth arrives to get the infant used to the procedure. If the infant objects to the brush a clean cloth with the toothpaste applied can be used.

Please contact the reception at Craigmillar Dental Centre and get information on our Childsmile program and a demonstration from our childsmile nurse on the correct brushing technique for your child.

Helping your children learn to brush properly is of course important. First of all the right toothpaste should be selected with the appropriate fluoride content. A 'pea-sized' amount of paste should be used and help should be given to guide the child around the tooth surfaces. Brushing with your child to begin with will ensure the correct time is taken.
