When the jaw opens, there are two movements involved, a rotation and a slide. Cartilage between the bones smoothes the movement. Sometimes as cartilage wears, it may click during the opening.
It is important to seek advice from your dentist at Craigmillar Dental Centre when clicking and pain occur during jaw opening. Steps can be taken, for example with occlusal splints, to reduce or remove symptoms.
